A day at the camel races…...

Recently, I was able to spend the morning at a camel racing track. Unlike the traditional horse race program that a lot of us are used to... camel racing is different. There are no jockeys, rather motorised pseudo jockeys.  Camel owners drive their 4WD's next to the track, honking furiously to edge their camel along. Camels run on sand, not grass and even the youngest camels get to race. Overall, it makes for an interesting day that is rarely busy and a truly unique experience in its own right. Even on one of the rare occasions when the rain came to the desert, the camels never stopped running.

Even in bad weather in bleak locations, there are always opportunities to explore and learn new things about a location. On this day I was in the right place at the right time and it was a real pleasure to experience a day at the camel races.

Happy shooting and safe travels.
